How to Test a Strong 8K URL or “DNS” Safely Before Adding It to TiviMate

To test a Strong 8K URL safely, do not cycle through replacement links by repeatedly entering your username and password. First reduce the list with credential-free DNS and HTTPS checks, then validate only the best candidate once inside TiviMate.

Quick answer

  • Confirm that every candidate hostname came from your authorized provider or reseller.
  • Test only the bare origin—for example, https://stream.example.com—without a username, password, token, M3U path or private API endpoint.
  • Check three separate layers: DNS resolution, HTTPS/TLS and an HTTP response. Passing these checks means the host is reachable; it does not prove that your account or streams work.
  • Shortlist one candidate, create a clearly named temporary playlist in TiviMate, and test playlist loading, guide data and one authorized stream.
  • Keep the original playlist until the replacement passes. If every candidate fails, stop cycling links and send a redacted diagnostic to support.

A recent r/Strong_8K question asked for a faster way to test roughly ten replacement URLs when only one—or none—works, instead of typing every candidate into TiviMate. Another user asked whether needing a new URL every week is normal.

This workflow helps you test Strong 8K URL candidates without exposing account credentials.

Those questions identify a real support problem, but community replies are not technical proof. Some replies recommend putting credentials into a browser address or changing the client’s User-Agent to get around a block. This guide deliberately does neither. It separates public reachability checks from private account authentication and keeps the final login inside the authorized player.

URL, hostname and DNS are not the same thing

In community discussions, “new DNS” often means a replacement server hostname or base URL. Technically, DNS is the naming system that resolves a hostname to an IP address. A full URL can also contain a scheme, port, path and query. RFC 3986 defines these URI components.

Hostname

stream.example.com. DNS can tell you whether this name currently resolves.

Bare origin

https://stream.example.com. This is enough to test TLS and basic HTTP reachability without account data.

Private connection URL

A URL containing a playlist path, username, password or token. Treat the whole value as a secret.

A hostname that resolves may still have an expired or mismatched certificate. A host with valid HTTPS may return a protected or missing root page. Even a successful website response does not prove that an account is active, an EPG is populated or video playback is healthy. That is why the workflow uses four stages.

A four-stage test for a replacement Strong 8K URL

1

Prepare a credential-free candidate list

Copy the list your authorized provider supplied. For each entry, keep only the scheme, hostname and an explicit port if one was provided. Remove the path and everything after a question mark. Use neutral labels such as Candidate A, B and C. Do not discover, scrape or exchange private endpoints.

If the supplied URL contains credentials before the hostname, such as https://user:password@host, or you cannot confidently identify the origin, do not redact it manually—ask the provider for a clean base URL.

Safe note: Candidate A — https://stream.example.com — received Oct 3. Do not save the full playlist URL beside it.

2

Check DNS resolution

On Windows, use nslookup. On macOS or Linux, use dig. Replace the placeholder with the hostname only:

nslookup stream.example.com

dig +short stream.example.com A
dig +short stream.example.com AAAA

An A or AAAA response means a resolver returned an address. It does not mean the streaming service works. If NXDOMAIN is confirmed with another resolver, recheck the spelling with the supplier or domain owner. Treat SERVFAIL, timeouts and empty responses as inconclusive until repeated on another resolver or network, because they can be temporary or resolver-specific.

Google Public DNS troubleshooting recommends using DNS lookup tools and comparing resolver results when diagnosing name-resolution failures. Cloudflare’s DNS troubleshooting documentation also explains that missing records, delegation problems and cached negative answers require DNS-side investigation. Changing a player setting cannot repair a hostname that has no valid authoritative DNS record.

Record: resolved / did not resolve, returned address family, test date and network. Never record account credentials.

3

Check HTTPS, certificate and HTTP response

For candidates that resolve, test the bare authorized origin. The following curl command discards the response body and reports only the HTTP code, remote IP and total time:

curl --connect-timeout 8 --max-time 15 --silent --show-error \
  --output /dev/null \
  --write-out "HTTP %{http_code} | remote %{remote_ip} | total %{time_total}s\n" \
  https://stream.example.com/

The official curl HTTP scripting guide documents header and response inspection, while curl’s TLS certificate documentation explains that the client verifies the certificate authority and hostname by default.

Never add -k or --insecure. A certificate warning is a failed candidate, not an obstacle to bypass. Do not change the User-Agent to impersonate TiviMate, do not follow an unexpected redirect until you have reviewed its destination, and do not append a username, password, token or private API path.

If you do not use a terminal, opening only the bare HTTPS origin in a browser can reveal a DNS or certificate error. A blank page, login prompt, 403 or 404 still needs careful interpretation; it is not proof that your playlist works.

4

Validate one shortlisted candidate in TiviMate

TiviMate’s official Google Play listing describes it as a player to which users add their own playlists; it does not provide channels. It supports multiple playlists, so a clearly named temporary playlist can keep the test separate from a working setup. Use only your existing authorized credentials and the provider-supplied base URL.

  1. Create a playlist named URL test — Oct 3.
  2. Enter the shortlisted server URL and your authorized login inside TiviMate, not a public checker.
  3. Wait for the playlist update to finish and note the exact error if it fails.
  4. If it loads, check whether categories appear, then whether EPG data loads.
  5. Start one authorized live item. If VOD is part of the account, test one item there too.
  6. Keep the original playlist until the replacement works after a normal app restart.

Typing on a TV is error-prone. The official Google TV mobile remote and Amazon Fire TV app keyboard can reduce transcription mistakes. Do not copy account details into shared notes or screenshots.

How to interpret the result without overclaiming

RFC 9110 groups HTTP responses into success, redirect, client-error and server-error classes. For this workflow, the response only describes the bare origin request.

ResultWhat it provesWhat to do next
2xxThe bare root accepted the request.Candidate passes the reachability layer; perform one private in-app validation.
3xxThe server requested a redirect.Review the destination hostname. Do not automatically follow an unfamiliar domain.
401 / 403An HTTP server answered, but the request lacks access or is forbidden. The host is reachable but the playlist remains unproven. Do not try to bypass the control.
404The server answered, but the root path is not found. It may be normal for a private API-only host; validate only through the authorized player.
429The server is rate-limiting requests.Stop testing and retry later or contact support. Do not automate repeated requests.
5xxThe server or an upstream component failed to fulfil the request.Record the time and code, then ask the provider to investigate.
000, timeout, DNS or TLS errorNo valid HTTP response reached curl; 000 is not an HTTP status.Read the curl error and report the affected layer. Do not disable certificate verification.

Important: A 2xx, 403 or 404 response never proves that credentials, EPG, VOD or live playback work. It proves only that an HTTP server responded at that origin. Conversely, a host can reject browser-style requests while still requiring a documented app flow; only your authorized provider should confirm that design.

Protect credentials while testing

Some playlist and API formats put usernames, passwords or access tokens in the URL. OWASP’s REST Security guidance says passwords, tokens and API keys should not appear in URLs because web server logs can capture them. MITRE CWE-598 also notes that query-string credentials may be exposed through browser history, referrer data and logs.

Never paste a URL such as player_api.php?username=...&password=... into a browser, terminal screenshot, public “connection checker,” Reddit post or group chat. Redact everything after the hostname when asking for help. If a credential-bearing URL was exposed, contact the account provider and rotate the credentials if the system supports it.

Do not use a modified User-Agent to make a blocked host answer. That changes the request and can evade an intentional control, so it is not a neutral reachability test. A clean test should identify the failing layer, not disguise the client.

If TiviMate still fails after the host passes

A URL can resolve, complete TLS and return HTTP while TiviMate still reports a playlist error. That points to a narrower problem: an incorrect base path, an account-format mismatch, invalid credentials, account status, an app-specific route or a network policy. Work through the Strong 8K login and playlist troubleshooting guide instead of repeatedly changing DNS.

If the playlist loads but the guide is empty, use the separate Strong 8K EPG “No Information” checklist. DNS resolution cannot create missing programme data or repair channel-to-guide matching.

Compare networks only as a diagnostic

When permitted by your account terms, compare the same candidate on home broadband and a phone hotspot. Record whether DNS, TLS and the player result change. If a VPN is already part of your lawful setup, compare it off and on only to isolate the route; do not use a VPN to evade geographic restrictions, licensing limits or access controls.

If the host works on one network but not another, send the provider the redacted hostname, time, time zone, ISP or network type, DNS result and exact player error. Do not conclude automatically that an ISP is throttling the service; several different failures can look similar from the television.

A better URL handoff for legitimate OTT resellers

Sending a customer ten undocumented URLs creates repeated typing, credential exposure and poor diagnostic data. A reseller can make support safer without promising perfect uptime:

  1. Confirm one current hostname and the exact connection format before sending it.
  2. State whether the value is a base URL, a custom hostname or a complete private playlist URL.
  3. Include the change date, affected accounts and a support contact.
  4. Ask for a redacted DNS/TLS result before requesting app reinstall or account reset.
  5. Keep a change log of hostname, DNS owner, certificate status and rollback plan.
  6. Do not claim that a custom domain guarantees availability.

If you operate a domain you are authorized to manage, the Strong 8K custom-domain and Cloudflare 1016 guide covers DNS ownership, origin resolution and rollback. That article is for configuring the domain; the present workflow is for testing a provider-supplied candidate safely.

A useful support report

  • Candidate hostname only, with path and query removed
  • Date, time and time zone
  • DNS result: address / NXDOMAIN / SERVFAIL / timeout
  • TLS or curl error, or HTTP response class
  • Device, operating system and TiviMate version
  • Whether the original playlist still works

Frequently asked questions

Does a 403 mean the Strong 8K URL works?

No. It means an HTTP server answered and refused that bare request. The hostname is reachable, but account authentication, playlist loading and playback remain unproven.

Why does DNS resolve while TiviMate still fails?

DNS only maps a hostname to an address. TLS, the expected API path, account format, credentials, account status and stream routes can still fail afterward.

Should I change my device DNS?

Not as a first response. Compare resolver results to identify caching or filtering differences, but changing the device resolver cannot repair a missing or incorrect authoritative record.

Can I test the full playlist URL in a browser?

Do not do it if the URL contains a username, password or token. Test only the bare origin without sensitive path or query data, then use the authorized player for the private login.

Why does a URL work in one app but not another?

Apps may use different connection formats, paths or authentication flows. Do not spoof another app’s identity. Confirm the supported format with the provider and use the app’s documented setup.

How often should a TiviMate URL change?

TiviMate has no documented requirement to rotate a playlist hostname weekly. There is also no public Strong 8K uptime or rotation guarantee. Repeated replacement requests should be documented and investigated with the authorized provider.

Is ping enough to test the URL?

No. A server may ignore ICMP ping while DNS and HTTPS still work. Test name resolution and TLS/HTTP separately, then validate the playlist once in the player.

Evaluate the support process, not just the URL list
